Getting Started With EmailAug 19, 2019
How many times do you see the side of a van, someone's business card, or even marketing emails which leave a generic gmail or hotmail email address as their sign off?
It looks so unprofessional!
One of the very first things that any new or existing business owner should do when establishing their business, is get a business email address.
It doesn’t cost the earth, and you can get a professional domain name and email account with very little hassle.
Firstly, I’d recommend that you head over to Microsoft’s Office 365 site and purchase one (or more if you need them) license of Office 365 Business Essentials for £3.80 per user per month.
This will give you:
- A professional email inbox, which you can use as you wish.
- 1TB of personal online storage for you to store files, images, videos – whatever you need.
- Web versions of Office – Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint and OneNote
Once signed up, you will need a domain name.
You can do this directly via Office 365 -> On the left hand side just go to Setup -> Domains and then at the top click + Buy Domain.
Or if you want to purchase the domain name elsewhere, visit your favourite site which sells domain names – GoDaddy for example.
On here, head to the ‘find your perfect domain name’ section and type in the domain name that you’d like to purchase.
The general rule of thumb would be to look for a .com for a global company or a .co.uk (or a .co) for a UK company.
So start by looking for ‘danthebuilder’ for example and hit enter.
If it’s available – then great! Add it to your cart and buy it.
If it comes back to say it’s not, then you’ll either need to think of a different domain name, perhaps a variation on your domain name, or maybe settle on a different TLD (.net, .co, .org etc)
Follow the setup steps in Office 365 to get your email account set up and working – it’s a fairly straight forward process, and there are plenty of resources online to look up if you do get into an issues.
Get it added to your business cards, get the car or van changed from that horrible @gmail address, get your website setup and start doing some business!
